Cyproheptadine is an antihistamine used to relieve seasonal and nonseasonal allergy symptoms such as hay fever, watery and itchy eyes, runny and stuffy nose, sneezing, nasal inflammation, hives, and rashes. Cyproheptadine works by blocking the action of certain natural substances (histamine and serotonin) in the body.
Cyproheptadine is used to treat sneezing, itching, watery eyes, runny nose, and other symptoms of allergies.
How it works
Cyproheptadine belongs to the group of medicines called antihistamines and antiserotonergic. It works by blocking the action of histamine, a substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms.
Always follow the instructions of doctor regarding the dosage and duration:
- Treatment in adults: 4 to 20 mg 3 times daily and should not be more than 0.5 mg/kg daily.
- Treatment in children (2-6 years): 2 mg 2-3 times daily and should not be more than 12 mg daily.
- Treatment in children (7-14 years): 4 mg 2-3 times daily and should not be more than 16 mg daily.
